                                The history of Wellington shows that
                                the  French  Huguenots  were  first  to
                                settle here in the 17th century. In its
                                early years the town was first known
                                as  Limiet  Valley  and  later  as  Val  Du
                                Charron or Wagenmakersvallei (Valley
                                of the Wagonmaker). After the eventu-
                                al establishment of the town in 1840,
                                the name was changed to Wellington
                                in honour of the Duke of Wellington,
                                renowned  soldier  and  conqueror  of
                                Napoleon  at  the  Battle  of  Waterloo.
                                Wellington is home to many vineyards
                                and  fine  wines  as  well  as  beautiful
